Jia Lei

2010 Recipient

Last summer, Jia volunteered at a disabled children center in Nepal. Her tasks where to feed and play with the children. Jia states, “It was rewarding seeing them smile after being fed and participating in activities.

I believe that the volunteers in this center have a great impact on those kids’ lives.” Returning to Boston, Jia volunteered at the Boston Storefront Library in Chinatown. This project was started to show the city that Chinatown needs a library. As a bilingual speaker, Jia helped create a comfortable atmosphere and brought convenience for both English-speakers and Chinese speakers. “Helping to acquire a library branch in Chinatown is also rewarding, the successful outcome will benefit the whole community surrounding the downtown of Boston.” says Jia. She will be attending Boston College in the fall.
