Katelyn Jeter

Katelyn Jeter

2014 Recipient

Katelyn Jeter of Winthrop can teach us all about persistence and determination. She was a successful student athlete at Southfield when she was unexpectantly hit with a serious illness. After spending a month on life support and undergoing a bilateral trans-metatarsal amputation she fought back to become stronger than ever. Her six week rehabilitation program was accomplished in two and a half and after only six short weeks of physical therapy she was ready to get on her skates again! Although Katelyn has faced her own challenges she is happiest when she is giving back to her community. In addition to mentoring youngsters at Kathy’s Place, a youth center in Winthrop she volunteers with Northeast Passage. This is a unique program designed to empower individuals with disabilities through therapeutic recreation and adaptive sports. We thank Katelyn for being such a strong self-less individual and wish her the best as she continues her education at Norwich University this fall.
