2015 Recipient

Matthew is an ambitious young man with a big heart. From an early age he understood the importance of giving back to his community.  At the age of 9 he volunteered at his first Alex’s Lemonade Stand, a nationwide effort to raise funds for childhood cancer research.  Since 2007 he has raised over $12,000 for this cause.  Throughout the years Matthew has balanced his volunteer efforts alongside his academic career and interest in meteorology.

As the top scoring student at his high school with a passion for public speaking, he was invited to deliver a speech to over one hundred new teachers at Plymouth’s new teacher orientation.  Matthew was also asked to speak about his volunteerism efforts at Governor Deval Patrick’s first and second inaugurations.  In addition, Matthew has raised funds for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life and served as the keynote speaker for the Southeastern Massachusetts Relay for Life in 2011.

Matthew’s passion for meteorology has led him to submit research and present his findings at the American Meteorological Society’s conference.  He also delivers three weekly weather forecasts using his computer and a simple green screen.  Matthew has demonstrated initiative, ambition, and compassion in all of his endeavors.  We wish him the best and know he will continue to make an impact on his community as he pursues his education at Harvard this fall.
